WEBCAST FAQ'S & INSTRUCTIONS

What you need to know to view Delaware's Webcast.

What is a web cast?

A webcast is a multimedia presentation that is displayed to viewers over the Internet. These kinds of broadcasts typically consume large amounts of "bandwidth" (the capacity of your Internet connection). Generally speaking, the faster the Internet connection (e.g., cable modem, DSL) the more likely you are to be able to receive higher quality video and audio data through a webcast.

What do I need to watch the Delaware Web Cast?

In order to watch the Delaware Web Cast, it is recommended that you should have at version 6.5 or later of the QuickTime media player. This player is available free of charge, and can be downloaded from Apple at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/products/qt/. Viewers that have an earlier version of QuickTime, should at minimum, upgrade to version 6.5 or later to view the webcast. Viewers are strongly encouraged to download this software prior to the beginning of the Web Cast.

How does my Internet connection speed affect the quality of a web cast?

Steps have been taken to accommodate viewers with slower Internet connections. Before viewing the webcast, you should test the speed of your Internet connection. Many free bandwidth tests are available on the Internet -- one such test is available at http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/. Unless the speed of your Internet connection is high, you may want to consider viewing one of the lower bandwidth webcast options that will be presented for users wishing to view the live Webcast.

What other factors can affect my viewing experience?

  • A media player is a software application that will consume computer resources as it is used to view a webcast. If you are using other applications at the same time you are using a media player, there may be an impact on the performance of the media player and the quality of the web cast. To ensure the best possible viewing experience, you should shut down any unneeded applications on your computer before attempting to view the webcast.
  • Users with good Internet connections sometimes share their connections with others. For example, many workplace computers are connected to the Internet via a Local Area Network, or LAN. Cable modem access is also a shared connection to the Internet that can be utilized by a group of users in a specific neighborhood. If the number of people using a shared connection is large, the speed of any one individual connection can be degraded. Even the best Internet connections can be affected by multiple users making high bandwidth demands on their link to the Internet. If you normally have a good Internet connection from home or work, it is possible for the speed of your connection to be impacted by other users.
  • Sometimes the service provided by local Internet Service Providers (ISPs, the company that you buy your Internet access from) can be interrupted. If the service provided by your ISP is interrupted, it may impact your viewing of this webcast.
